The Missoulian, Independent and KPAX ran stories this weekend on «Faces of the Pov». An art exhibit where photographer Catherine Walters and painter Kimberly Anderson teamed up to present an art show to demonstrate how close we all are to being homeless.
The Missoulian (I can't get the Missoulian web site to load) ran a story about UM students sleeping in the Oval last night in order to show support and solidarity for the homeless and hungry during Hunger Awareness Week. I have trouble understanding how this does any good. Does it help the homeless out of their plight? Does it encourage the students to become homeless? Just the fact the students are attending college pretty much assures they won't be homeless. They have the work ethic, the drive, and the ambition to make something of their lives. Now if they end up addicted to drugs or alcohol, their situation may change and they may truly become one with the homeless or hungry.
I see many stories this time of year claiming Mary and Joseph (Jesus' parents) were a homeless couple when Jesus was born. Rob Chaney in the Missoulian even reported it yesterday in the article about the beating death of homeless veteran, Forrest Clayton Salcido. (emphasis mine)
