Another Day, Another Tax Increase for Missoula
Not to be outdone by the City of Missoula's increased gas tax proposal, Missoula County is proposing a tax increase to finance $16 Million of the $26 Million Emergency Operations Center. Of course, taxpayers will hardly notice the increase.
For the homeowner of a $200,000 market-value home, the proposed $16 million bond issue would cost $27.89 a year. For a homeowner of a $345,000 market-value home, the price would be $40.96 a year.
It's only a few nickles and dimes but nickles and dimes add up. There's a lot of nickel and dimes on my property bill already and I don't really want to add any more. Especially now with the way the Democrat congress has managed the economy since they took over in 2006.
Both local governments are trying to get these proposed tax increased on the November Ballot. It's only July, and we already have two possible tax increases to vote on in November. I'm sure there is more to come. As we all know, government can't ever do without and must go to the taxpayer when things get tight. Fortunately, we get to vote on them and I bet Missoulians will have had enough despite how «progressive» they are.
I look forward to seeing what other critical things the local governments will need us to pay for in the next four months.

Blaming the economy on Congress is absurd. Bush's failed economic policies have destroyed the prosperity of the Clinton years.

You are wrong, Jamie. The Republican controlled congress during the Clinton years was responsible for the prosperity. That prosperity continued until 2006, when Pelosi, Reid and the Democrats took over.
Look it up...

Bitch Bitch Bitch
That is all I ever hear.
If the roads are in horrible shape in Missoula I am sure you would bitch and moan about that also. You need to realize that infrastructure costs money to maintain and upgrade.
All bitching with no solutions is not useful.

Your damn right I'm bitching. I understand infrastructure costs money and I don't mind paying for it when it makes sense. But $26 MILLION for a Emergency Operations Center! Come on! Think about it. What on earth makes it cost that much? It's because it's a government project. It's ridiculous.
Look at how much the Broadway Road Diet fiasco cost. Several Million. What a waste. Enough is enough.
