Homeless For a Night??!!
The Missoulian (I can't get the Missoulian web site to load) ran a story about UM students sleeping in the Oval last night in order to show support and solidarity for the homeless and hungry during Hunger Awareness Week. I have trouble understanding how this does any good. Does it help the homeless out of their plight? Does it encourage the students to become homeless? Just the fact the students are attending college pretty much assures they won't be homeless. They have the work ethic, the drive, and the ambition to make something of their lives. Now if they end up addicted to drugs or alcohol, their situation may change and they may truly become one with the homeless or hungry.
I guess it made the students feel good about themselves for participating. So that's a good thing.
My point is I believe most of the homeless are in their situation because of the poor choices they make in their lives. I think it's foolish to show solidarity with people who have made the multiple poor choices that have made them homeless. They are not people to look up to and respect by any means. Man, I'm a cold, heartless bastard!
In the picture in section B that accompanies the article, in the background, there is a tent with a band playing. I wonder if there was beer?

«I wonder if there was beer?»
I wonder if Paris Hilton showed up.
