What's The Reading Level of Your Blog?

This is fun' and may not be a new thing but it's new to me so I'm going to blog on it.

The Hammond Report is at a High School level of reading which I would agree with.

I punched in a few URLs and found that Carol at Missoulapolis is at a Genius level and Scoop is at a College level.

I also punched in some URLs from our friends on the left and found that LITW and Montana Netroots come in at a respectable Junior High reading level and most interestingly, Wulfgar came in at... well you see for yourself!

Andy, that is fun and I decided to do some tests with it.

On a general test of my site I also got a «high school» level score. But if I tested my posts where I didn't include a lot of quotes from news sources I typically scored at the college level (you can test a single post.) I think that's because newspapers write at the 8th grade level. Also, checking individual posts, churlish comments will deprecate one's score.

Funny though, that I tested a few of Jay Stevens' individual posts and got nothing better than a high school score and only got elementary scores from Wulfgar (but that didn't surprise me.) I'm sure too that the one's score is reduced by literary styles such as beginning sentences with conjunctions or ending them with prepositions - styles that even W.F. Buckley is know to use from time to time.

That said, I don;t think the test can measure coherence or insight. It is fun though.

Gee, I tested my blog, Wrong Dog, and got a college undergrad level. Then I checked posts authored only by me Montana Netroots and got a highschool level. Then I checked Dave's theory and the less media quotes from the press, the higher the rating. The shorter the sentences, the lower the score. Pretty simple metrics really.

Shane, it would seem then that Hemingway would garner a low score.

I was surprised to rate a college postgrad level. My English teachers would be taken aback! I never got better than B's in any writing class. I'm fair at spelling. That's got to count.

That was a fun link, but I'm not sure it means much. I might disagree with Wulfgar often, but I don't find him to be lacking in intelligence. Maybe it's related to some of the 'titles' he uses for some of us on the right.
